Marc and the other founders of Portolani set-up a multi-family office with a thorough understanding of the fiduciary duties when advising ‘other people’s money’. This initial vision still acts as the cornerstone of Portolani’s activities.
Before Portolani, Marc was during 10 years a partner at Capital & Finance, an independent wealth management and corporate finance boutique that earned a reputation for its multi-asset funds, low fees and declining all forms of retrocessions from managers.
Marc holds a master in law and a degree in economics and followed the Advanced Management Program at Vlerick. He started practising law at White & Chase in New York, followed by a ten year career in corporate and financial law in Brussels of which 5 years as a partner at Loeff Claeys Verbeke.
Bernard has over 10 years of experience as COO of a single family office with a focus on private equity and is a board member of two prominent retail chains. Before his function as COO, he worked as a senior investment manager at BNP Paribas Fortis for Fortis Private Equity (4 years). Bernard gained also significant experience in finance while working for Lehman Brothers in their leverage finance department. He started his career as a consultant with Arthur D. Little and Roland Berger.
Bernard holds an MBA in Business Administration and a master in civil engineering (mining).
Wim joined Portolani in 2019 and became partner in 2021. Prior Wim was ‘Head of Asset Management’ at Bank Nagelmackers. For 8 years he was responsible for asset allocation, the investment process and the fund management of multiple funds. As ‘Head of Investment Research Centre’ (6 years) Wim selected funds and implemented a sound investment strategy at Bank Nagelmackers. He started his career at Fortis where he specialized in the selection of Value Equity Funds.
Wim is an External Board Member of ‘Brandes Institute”, an independent academic community, focused on asset management.
Wim holds a Master in Economic Sciences, with a specialization in Belgian taxes.
Vincent’s M&A experience started in 2001 at Morgan Stanley in London. As from 2007 he advised large cap clients in the Telecom and Energy industries as Associate Director at UBS . Returning to Belgium in 2010, Vincent sourced primary deals for Riverside Europe, a mid-market PE fund managing EUR 2Bn in assets. Starting 2014, he advised midsized clients on Corporate Finance, mainly in Belgium and France. Vincent joined Portolani in June 2020 to head the Corporate Finance Desk (PMI selection and corporate finance).
Vincent holds an MBA from Chicago Booth and an MSc in Management from the Solvay Business School (ULB), where he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Solvay School’s Alumni.
Ann-Michèle was admitted as a lawyer to the Brussels bar and started an academic position as Assistant Professor at the ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles) in 1992. After spending several years in top tier international law firms, Ann-Michèle has worked as General Counsel of companies in the software industry, in charge of the Legal and Compliance Department. Ann-Michèle has joined Portolani in 2022 and is in charge of legal and compliance matters.
Ann-Michèle holds a Legal Degree from ULB, a LLM from Cambridge University (UK) and a post-graduate master in Company Law from KUB. Ann-Michèle holds a certificate as “Certified Compliance Officer” delivered by the Febelfin Academy.
Sylvie is responsible for the daily monitoring, processing, check and consolidation of the liquid portfolios of our clients. Before joining Portolani, Sylvie worked as an investment and portfolio analyst at financial institutions such as ABN AMRO Private Banking, Candriam and BNY.
Sylvie holds a Bachelor in Business Management, with a focus on Finance and Insurance.
Anne works closely with our client families based in Luxembourg to insure the correct administration and management of their Luxembourg based vehicles. Anne worked as a Fund Administrator for an independent fund management group in Luxembourg. Prior Anne worked in various functions for SGSS Luxembourg and Banque Delen Luxembourg.
Anne holds a Master in Social Economic Sciences.
Michel’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Languages & International Business as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Event & Project Management.
Nancy has over 7 years of experience as an Executive Assistant in the financial sector. She worked for Executive Directors and the CEO. Nancy is the office manager of the Portolani branch in Luxembourg. She has been living in Luxembourg for more than 25 years.
Jose Lujan has been hired as a Private Market Investments (PMI) Analyst. He holds a Master’s degree in Engineering and another in Finance, which makes him well-equipped to handle the complexities of PMI. Jose’s journey to Portolani is unique. He was able to join us thanks to a program between San Andres University in Buenos Aires and the ULB. He previously worked for us during the summer. Due to his great performance during his time with us, we knew that he would be a valuable recruit.
Michiel assists Sylvie and Wim in the daily monitoring, processing, check and consolidation of the liquid portfolios of our clients. He previously worked as an Associate at JP Morgan in Washington D.C. and later transitioned to Van Lanschot as a Personal Banker upon his return to Belgium in 2021. Michiel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and a Master’s in Business Administration from Radford University in Virginia.
Willem assists Wim in the analysis, monitoring and consolidation of client portfolios, with a special focus on illiquid investments. Willem analyzes (new) illiquid funds and is responsible for the capital calls and the cash management. Before joining Portolani, Willem worked as a ‘Portfolio Analyst’ at Delcap Asset Management where he was responsible for portfolio construction and monitoring.
Willem holds a Master in Financial Management and has a certificate as an Investment Advisor from EHSAL Management School.
