Marc and the other founders of Portolani set up a multi-family office that fully reflects the fiduciary duties when advising ‘other people’s money’. This initial vision still acts as the cornerstone of Portolani’s activities. Marc is the Managing Partner of Portolani. At the start of his career, Marc practised law at White & Case in New York, followed by a ten-year career in corporate and financial law in Brussels, of which 5 years were as a partner at Loeff Claeys Verbeke.

In 1996, Marc became Partner at Capital & Finance, an independent wealth management and corporate finance boutique that earned a reputation for its multi-asset funds, low fees, and declining all forms of retrocessions from managers and distributors.

Marc holds a master’s in law and a degree in economics and followed the Advanced Management Program at Vlerick.

Bernard joined Portolani in 2015. He leads Corporate Finance projects and is a senior advisor in the selection of PMI managers.

Bernard started his career as a consultant with Arthur D. Little and Roland Berger. He gained significant experience in finance while working for Lehman Brothers in their leveraged finance department before joining Fortis Private Equity as a senior investment manager. Bernard has over 10 years of experience as COO of a single family office with a focus on private equity and is a board member of two retail chains.

Bernard holds an MBA in Business Administration and a master in civil engineering (mining).

Wim joined Portolani in 2019 and became partner in 2021. He is responsible for asset allocation, selection of liquid asset managers, and reporting.

Wim started his career at Fortis, where he specialized in the selection of value equity funds and managed the unit-linked business. As from 2010, Wim was ‘Head of Asset Management’ at Bank Nagelmackers, responsible for asset allocation, the investment process, and the management of multiple funds. Wim is an External Board Member of The Brandes Center at the Rady School of Management in San Diego.

Wim holds a Master in Economic Sciences, with a specialization in Belgian tax.

Vincent joined Portolani in June 2020 and became a Partner in 2023. Vincent heads the Corporate Finance Desk (M&A) as well as the selection of PMI managers. Five colleagues are involved in the PMI programme, which includes managing a yearly pipeline of c. 200 funds. Started in 2017, the Portolani PMI selection includes 35 funds and grows by another 5 per year.

Vincent’s M&A experience started in 2001 at Morgan Stanley in London. As from 2007, he advised large cap clients in the Telecom and Energy industries as Associate Director at UBS. Returning to Belgium in 2010, Vincent sourced primary deals for Riverside Europe, a mid-market PE fund managing EUR 2Bn in assets. Starting in 2014, he advised midsized clients on Corporate Finance, mainly in Belgium and France.

Vincent holds an MBA from Chicago Booth (UofC) and an MSc in Management from the Solvay Business School (ULB), where he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Solvay School’s Alumni until 2022. He enjoys rowing and spending time with his wife and three daughters.

Sylvie assists Wim in the consolidation, analysis, and monitoring of investment portfolios, with a special focus on liquid investments. She is also responsible for the supervision and development of Portolani’s IT tools and infrastructure.

Prior to joining Portolani, she gained valuable experience at the middle office of Candriam and served as an Investment Officer at ABN AMRO Private Bank Belgium. Throughout her career, she consistently integrated project management into her day-to-day work, streamlining systems and simplifying procedures.

Sylvie holds a Bachelor in Business Management, with a focus on Finance and Insurance.

Anne works closely with our client families based in Luxembourg to ensure the correct administration and management of their Luxembourg-based vehicles. She is responsible for the KYC and AML procedures.

Anne worked as a Fund Administrator for an independent fund management group in Luxembourg. Prior to that, Anne worked in various functions for SGSS Luxembourg and Banque Delen Luxembourg.

Anne holds a Master in Social Economic Sciences.

Michel is responsible for managing all communication and overseeing office operations at the Antwerp location.

He has held positions as a Management Assistant at De Putter & Co and as a Junior Project Manager at E-Demonstrations.

Michel’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Languages & International Business as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Event & Project Management.

Nancy has been the Office Manager of the Luxembourg branch of Portolani since 2013. She is also the corporate secretary of the Management Committee.

She has over 17 years of experience in the Luxembourg financial sector, including over 10 years in family offices. She previously worked for Executive Directors and the CEO of a global wealth solutions provider.

Nancy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism from HTI Brugge.

Jose Lujan is a member of the PMI team and assists Willem in managing the cash flow of PMI programs.

Jose began his career in Argentina with stints at Galp, YPF, and the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange. His experience at the stock exchange motivated him to pursue a Master’s degree in Finance. He was able to join us thanks to an exchange program between San Andrés University in Buenos Aires and ULB.

He holds a Master’s degree in Engineering and another in Finance, making him well-equipped to handle the complexities of PMI.

Michiel is responsible for the daily monitoring, processing, analyzing, and consolidating of the liquid portfolios of our clients, in collaboration with Sylvie. Michiel also assists Wim with the analysis, due diligence, and selection of liquid funds as well as monitoring the asset allocation of clients.

He previously worked as an Associate at JP Morgan in Washington D.C. and later transitioned to Van Lanschot Kempen as a Personal Banker upon his return to Belgium in 2021.

Michiel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and a Master’s degree in Business Administration, both from Radford University in Virginia.

Willem assists Wim in the consolidation, analysis, and monitoring of investment portfolios, with a special focus on private market investments. Willem is also a member of the team selecting PMI managers and supervises cash flow management for PMI programs.

Before joining Portolani, Willem worked as a ‘Portfolio Analyst’ at Delcap Asset Management, where he was responsible for portfolio construction and monitoring.

Willem holds a Master in Financial Management and has a certificate as an Investment Advisor from EHSAL Management School. He is currently pursuing an executive MBA at EDHEC Business School.

Philippe Maes is the Risk Manager at Portolani.

He brings experience from his background as a lawyer and currently also serves as the Risk and Compliance Officer for a licensed fund manager.

Philippe earned his Master’s degree in Law from KU Leuven in 2014 and further specialized in Tax Law by completing an additional Master’s program at Université Libre de Bruxelles in 2015.

Peggy is the Compliance Officer at Portolani. She is responsible for advising management on setting and defining compliance policies and procedures, regulatory reporting, and establishing compliance controls and monitoring plans.

She brings over 25 years of experience as a Senior Compliance Officer at several investment firms and financial institutions. In 2021, she transitioned to a career in compliance consulting, offering her expertise to the financial and insurance sectors.

Peggy holds a degree in Financial Science and is a Certified Compliance Officer.
